UNITECH Carbon Footprint Challenge
The final of the Carbon Footprint Challenge 2019 a competition to reduce the carbon footprint, realized by UNITECH International, our partner network for young, talented engineers, took place last week in Zurich.
The Carbon Footprint Challenge invited students and recent graduates to join the competition and explore ideas on how to combat climate change. In teams, they developed methods and business ideas to reduce the CO2 footprint of industrial products and processes. Initiated by UNITECH International, a student network for engineer, it was supported by the four corporate partners Covestro, Evonik, Bühler and Oracle as well as some partner universities of the program.
The six best teams were invited to Zurich, received coaching and presented their ideas to a jury of corporate experts. Dr. David Bailey, (Business Development & Innovation of Process Technology & Engineering), who served as a coach, was enthusiastic: "I was amazed by the breadth, creativity and quality of both the ideas and the teams themselves at this year's Carbon Footprint Challenge. All the teams were fantastic, and this year's winners not only delivered a great idea, but also a passion and drive that will really help them on their way to an edible, non-toxic coating for fruit and fish."
The proud winners come from Indonesia and have already received their first financial support of CHF 10000 to make their idea become reality and to hopefully make a big step into decreasing food waste.
