Get the work started. Together with my great assistant Nina, I start every working day with a short comparison of upcoming topics and tasks. Virtually, of course, since both of us, like many other colleagues, are currently often working from home office. I'm very happy to have this opportunity as it makes today's work-life-blending much easier especially under the challenging Covid-19 situation. Especially those who also have children and depend on childcare facilities will most likely agree. Actually, our facility has just been closed this week. However, I would like to warn against the generalization that a home office is suitable for everyone in the long run. For example, one's own home may be unsuitable because of the lack of a regimen. Under the special circumstances of the pandemic that might work for a certain time but nevertheless, I ask for companies to not make home office spaces mandatory. A home office is a great thing to have available, but only for those who find it suitable. At Evonik I have the impression we are on the right path and for me, personally, home office is suitable and it fits!
Two weeks quarantine before meeting the first customers in China is less time for 499 things to do. But in the meantime I have become better on juggling four balls and started working on five. My first visit to Shanghai after leaving the hotel was very intense with many great impressions such as trying out an augmented reality smart glasses you can use for remote diagnosis or even commissioning. This digital hardware supported in in matter of fact end of May by starting up our recovery plant at our Austrian site in Schörfling. Due to travel restrictions in the corona, the supplier commissioned the plant remotely and at the site with Augmented Reality Smart Glasses.
Spending ten days in the quarantine before meeting first customers in China, I am surprised how normal the new normality already feels. Social media quickly makes you lose your feeling for room or for geographical distance and keeps you in permanent contact with friends and family. One hour of sport a day can also be easily mastered in a hotel room as one of 499 things you can do. Especially if find colleagues with a good YouTube tip at their hands to join in.
Have you ever wanted to unsubscribe from all newsletters that daily spam your inbox? These and 498 other ideas are described in a booklet I’ve got for my trip to China to intensify customer relationships. A good source of ideas during a two-week quarantine I am currently in Shanghai due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Curious to experience this new normal daily business fully virtual currently.
Evonik Starting Kit goes digital 👍
Last week we had our first digital ESK session to welcome our new employees in a digital, all-day set-up. Such a great experience for all of us! A big thank you to everybody participating and making this event such an informative, interactive, successful and fun day.
We're #flexible! This year, we met university students online through virtual career fairs. It was a learning experience for me, but also an #opportunity to build some new skills. I acted as the chat room host, greeted students, answered general questions and then matched students with employee ambassadors for one-on-one conversations.
I miss doing these events in person and getting the physical cues from students. And traveling to different campuses brought me to parts of the country I'd never been before and quickly grew to love.
Nevertheless, we made the most of the situation, met many promising students and shared our stories of #HumanChemistry and why we work at Evonik.
One of the things I love about my job is that I can work anywhere I have wifi. This allows me so much flexibility to take care of all the things that matter in my life. This photo shows one of my favorite places, a Bed & Breakfast on the Hudson River.
