With my new friend Stella from Armanino LLP at the Recruiting Leadership Institute hosted by the National Association of College and Employers (NACE). It was great to meet other recruiting professionals, learn from each other and make friends. I just met Stella during the conference, but it turns out her college roommate is one of my high school friends!
The #Wallingford site hosted a panel discussion as part of its ongoing efforts to work with fellow manufacturers and the state’s educational institutions to address the workforce needs of chemical manufacturers. Connecticut’s largest manufacturers have historically been aerospace, submarine and machine tool related with the states vocational education programs geared to fit their needs. Discussion topics included: • Manufacturers and educational institutions partnering with their state representatives to develop legislation and educational programming to meet Connecticut's growing manufacturing workforce needs. • Revising current vocational curriculums to include chemical industry related skill sets. • Joe Schiers reviewed the various skills Evonik looks for when hiring new employees. • Challenges for industry in overcoming the stereotype associated with manufacturing jobs marketing to millennials. The feedback from attendees was excellent with consensus reached on the path forward. A plant tour followed with Senator Chris Murphy’s Director of Economic Development and other state representatives attending.
