BECOME PART OF “YOUNG SPIRIT”
WHAT IS YOUNG SPIRIT?
"Young Spirit" is an in-house project of Evonik that helps to inspire children at kindergarten and elementary school age to take an interest in science. Through simple and comprehensible experiments, children learn, e.g., how chemistry works with regular household items.
Around 200 Evonik employees have already registered as Evonik mentors. At Kindergartens, daycare centers and elementary schools, they carry out experiments together with the children in a fun and easy-to-understand manner.
We would like to give you and your children this opportunity at home as well. In our gallery, you can find experiments which will amaze you and your children! Thanks to the detailed instruction, you can easily recreate the experiments at home.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
Safety is always at the very top of our list of priorities. Therefore, we would like to ask you to always pay attention to your safety and the safety of each child you carry out the experiment with. If possible, always use safety glasses, gloves, aprons etc. and/or try to keep your distance, especially when handling with flammable materials (e.g., candles, paper etc.). The experiments are designed for children. Nevertheless, be sure to always follow basic safety procedures when you supervise children and experiments.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO SUPERVISE AN EXPERIMENT?
Before you start with your first experiment, we would like to give you a few tips on how to carry out a “Young Spirit” experiment. These experiments are meant to raise children’s interest in science. This means:
Start, for example, with a question to raise interest and curiosity: „how many drops of water fit on a 5-cent coin?"
Listen to their answers/solutions/hypotheses. “Failures” can us also teach new things.
Be patient and give enough time, so the children can try out their solutions or have time to come up with a different solution.
