Can you tell us briefly what your responsibilities are?

Working as the Area Sales Manager from our Shanghai office, I am responsible for the whole sales process of one of Evonik’s product lines, Reactive Sealant: an Adhesive Resin in China Mainland.

What do you like most about what you do?

The product I am responsible for is very specific and has many different applications. This means I get to scope and approach various industries, which I really enjoy doing. More importantly, I love the teams I work with in China and Germany, who support me on a daily basis to push the business forward. However, even though I get a lot of enjoyment out of my work, some parts are very challenging. For example, with the downstream market in China changing ever so quickly, we must keep challenging ourselves to keep our leading position by innovating new solutions to the market.

What would be a reason to join Evonik?

The product I am working on is a very important part of our business line, and we need someone in China to serve the Chinese market, which is a very important market globally. It is important for this person to understand the Chinese market well, and translate the customer requirement into our solution, and coordinate Evonik’s resources to better serve the market.

What does “Human Chemistry” mean to you?

Respect, trust, and cooperate with everyone you work with at Evonik.

What kind of person does well at Evonik?

To do well here, you must be fully focused on the market/customer requirements, and possess a strong work ethic and take full ownership of everything you do. And if you’re thinking of joining Evonik, I can honestly say this is a nice company that can give you a long career where you will be respected along the way.

What does “Opportunity” at Evonik mean to you?

There are plenty of opportunities at Evonik whether they come in the form of challenging and prospective business, great team work, and strong support from management and cross functions. They can come to you or you can look for them. At Evonik, I was lucky enough to be held responsible for taking the lead for the promotion of a new strategical product, Polyvest HT, from the end of 2014. This was definitely a great opportunity for me to grow. And as I am in sales focusing on different markets and customers on a daily basis, my management team always gives me strong support when generating opportunities to meet customer needs.

Can you tell us more about your experiences with flexibility at Evonik?

Because I am in sales, I have built up a good technical know-how of the market and customer requirements. Anything I don’t understand, I can easily go up to the internal technical team to brainstorm and come up with different solutions. I can even talk to cross-functional teams to learn more about what they are doing and their challenges. I have the freedom to manage my own workload and time. The main thing is that I complete my work on time. Plus, once you’ve demonstrated what you’re capable of, you’ll be given extra responsibility and shown how to achieve and manage them.
