My name is Enes and I am 24 years old. I would like to share with you how I became a part of Evonik.
I was born in Essen, Germany and was familiar with Evonik from an early age. However, I was not aware of the diverse job opportunities it offers to engineers.
The topics of business development and innovation management caught my interest while working on my Bachelor’s thesis. During that time, I came across an advertised position in technical service at Evonik.
Even though I knew this was an internship for Master’s students, I applied as a Bachelor’s student and submitted a video. From there, I became part of the Technical Services internship group, also known as the "Brainpool" within Evonik.
As a member of the Brainpool, I was allowed to participate in, organize, and plan several projects. I felt more like a valued full-time employee than an intern.
Working from home was new to me and at the beginning I had a lot of questions: Will I be left alone? What do I have to do? How do I work properly from home? These concerns disappeared on the first day when I realized that we are in constant communication with the team. There are always people to contact if I have questions or need support.
The Brainpool would not be the Brainpool without finding a solution to all of our challenges and questions together. One example of a time we displayed these teamworking abilities was at Ecosystems 3, an annual event of the network 4OPMC e.V. (Open Production & Maintenance Community) that Evonik is an official supporter of.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event could not take place in-person. As a result, our interns developed and implemented a new concept in compliance with the pandemic rules. We transformed the two-day event into a four-month event series, with weekly keynotes on exciting topics and a discussion of these topics. It was a complete success!
Apart from the great projects I worked on during the internship, I was also able to learn from the interdisciplinary group of interns. The group consisted of students from chemistry, business administration and engineering. Working with them broadened my horizons.
Looking back, I can say that it was a great experience and I would highly recommend an internship like this. Because I really liked Evonik’s culture and work atmosphere, I didn’t want to leave. Fortunately, Evonik Digital GmbH was looking for working students at the end of my internship.
I applied for the position without hesitation. Today, I support Cognitive Solutions at Evonik Digital GmbH in various projects – for example, with regard to the digitalization potential in the Group.
At the same time, I was recommended for the Evonik Perspectives (EP) program, Evonik‘s student retention program. After submitting my application and experiencing very pleasant recruiting and onboarding processes, I am happy to be a part of Evonik Perspectives now. I am excited to see what else is in store for me during my time at Evonik. I am looking forward to getting involved in the EP Program and getting to know the group even better and helping it progress.
With all of this in mind, I would like to wish you good luck! Or, as we say in Essen, Glück auf!
The Evonik Perspectives Program is Evonik's student retention program. Students who have already held their first experience at Evonik through an internship or master thesis have the opportunity to maintain contact with Evonik for future positions.
To share their experiences, the participants publish their own stories on our Students@Evonik blog.
