Evonik's DIY Lava Lamp
You need:
- A tall, slender glass
- Food coloring
- Water
- Cooking oil
- Flashlight
- Vitamin pill
- Fill a glass one-third full with brightly colored water and carefully top it up with cooking oil.
- Illuminate the glass from below.
- Break a vitamin tablet and throw it into the water.
The tablet dissolves in water, forming bubbles filled with carbon dioxide. They want to rise to the top. To do that, they have to pass through the oil. Because the bubbles are surrounded by a water film, a colored bubble rises to the top.
