Evonik Addresses Role of Industry in Education
At Expo 2020 in Dubai, Dr. Hendrik Schoenfelder, Regional President for Evonik Middle East & Africa speaks at the UAE Science Olympiads Forum.
How important are collaboration & Innovation from an Industry perspective? And what is the role of special scientific events and competitions in developing key career skills amongst students? These are some of the questions that Dr. Hendrik Schönfelder, President of Evonik Middle East & Africa, addressed on the 14th of December at Dubai Expo 2020 during a conference held parallel to the 18th International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO).
‘’The realm of Science never fails to fascinate me. It is amazing to see individuals work together for a good cause, providing a platform to students where they can showcase their talents emanated from pure curiosity, with Science being the foundation of it. Also, I am very proud to represent Evonik at the IJSO; it amuses me how a company of 32,000 employees globally collaborate in implementing various initiatives to support students in general, as well as in helping them potentially securing their future careers at Evonik’’ said Dr. Schönfelder.

The German-based company produces thousands of formulations which go into multiple applications that help manufacturers create better products be it tires, mattresses, medications, or animal feeds. To continue to offer industries with innovative solutions, Evonik needs talented people in all domains and that’s why the company offers multiple initiatives to help the development of students into the talents of the future.
Evonik emphasizes on supporting students of different stages as the company believes that these curious minds have great potential in shaping the future of Evonik. The company have implemented various initiatives that offer support to students, these include: Young Spirit, Dialog mit Jugend and Evonik Apprenticeship Program.
Dr. Schönfelder represented Evonik at the 18th IJSO along with four other key speakers from different organizations – Dr. PK Joshi, Dr. Dimitry Leites, Dr. Nader Masmoudi, and Dr. Emiel Kleijn.
