Ana Marie, a Chemical Engineer in Singapore

Deeply rooted in the Philippines, Ana Marie has been working as a chemical engineer in Singapore for 15 years and appreciates her diverse environment in production.

Ana Marie, you've been with Evonik for 15 years now. What aspects of your experience here have you appreciated the most?

I truly value the health benefits and the supportive culture at Evonik. My managers have always encouraged me to grow, and I appreciate that there's a strong emphasis on teamwork, perspective sharing and constructive dialogues. It creates a positive environment where everyone feels safe to express their ideas and contribute. As a woman in production, I feel proud to be part of a team that values diversity and inclusivity. It's rewarding to know that I'm doing something meaningful in my role.

As a chemical engineer working in a male-dominated production environment, what do you think about the cultural diversity in your team?

I've never felt any difference in being a woman in this role, and I actually feel empowered. Working alongside with men in the production, I see the advantages of our different backgrounds and cultures. It brings various perspectives to the table, which enhances our problem-solving abilities. I see change as a positive force, presenting an opportunity to step up and embrace new responsibilities, which has been immensely rewarding for me.

What's unique about your work experience in Singapore?

Working in Singapore is special because of the vibrant blend of cultures and the innovative spirit here. I enjoy the fast-paced environment and the opportunities for professional growth. However, I do miss the Philippines, especially the warmth of my family and friends. It's a bit of a tug-of-war; when I'm in Singapore, I long for home, and when I'm back in the Philippines, I miss the excitement of my work here. It’s a unique balance that I cherish.
