Anina

Anina, Trainee HR at Evonik, talks about her experiences.

During my studies, it was clear to me that I wanted to start my corporate career with a trainee program and towards the end of my bachelor’s degree I was certain that I wanted to work in strategic human resources. However, I was as insecure about the specific field as I was certain about the overall direction. Or: Ambition and motivation, check. Explicit plan, rather less so.

My decision for a trainee program was additionally supported by previous internships I completed. I like to be thrown in at the deep end and challenge myself in new (professional) environments. Accordingly, I liked the prospect of being able to do this regularly in the trainee program for 15 months, and even with two stations abroad.

As a trainee at Evonik, you receive very individual support, challenges and encouragement. And when in doubt, the colleagues never hesitate to offer their advice and support, regardless of department or hierarchy. We regularly work together on cross-departmental and cross-functional projects, network with colleagues around the world and thus enrich our own perspectives and learn new things every day. To me, this is what distinguishes Evonik as an employer.

Even prior to my first day with the Group, the application process also contributed to my decision in favour of Evonik as an employer. After submitting my application, an online assessment centre was conducted and there were no unpleasant surprises in terms of task type or scope at hand. And likewise, I faced no stress interviews or unmanageable case studies during final AC on site in Essen. During the whole process, communication has been prompt and transparent. Needless to say, it was a no-brainer to sign and return the offered contract the same day.

Now, more than half a year later I already completed my first trainee assignments and currently support the HR team in the Zurich office. In contrast to future assignments, this one particularly focuses on day-to-day and operational HR work.

By the way, the colleagues in Zurich support around 270 sales employees from 19 countries.

Long story short, the HR trainee program at Evonik stands out: The assignments are predominantly strategic, you will work together with fantastic colleagues, it is well-organised, gives room to creativity and you learn something new every day.
