Nuria: Making Sustainable Beauty a Reality

What motivates you in your job?

As technical and project manager, I am responsible for developing new active ingredients based on peptides and amino acids among others. These solutions give many cosmetic products their most important properties.

It makes me proud that my work not only contributes to more efficient cosmetics, but also to more sustainability. In one of my latest projects, I was involved in the development of a vegan collagen ingredient for the beauty and personal care market used in anti-aging creams. Traditionally, collagen comes from animal and marine sources, but we have been able to create a non-animal and sustainable alternative.

In 2021, you joined Evonik as part of an acquisition process. How did you experience this time?

Before the acquisition, I was worried about how my everyday work would change and what challenges could arise during the integration process. We were a very small company in which decisions were made quick, and everyone knew each other personally.

That´s why I was even more surprised when I realized how strong the communication is at Evonik, especially across departmental and national borders. In addition to the abundance of learning and training opportunities, I am impressed by my coworkers' eagerness to actively share their knowledge with one another. Numerous safety and regulatory factors need to be considered when creating an active ingredient. Thanks to Evonik's corporate structure with departments dedicated to these tasks, I can focus entirely on my daily work.

For me, it means being part of a large group of people who move together in the same direction, ensuring that no one is left behind. Along the way, individual talents are recognized and valued, and everyone supports each other to learn and grow together.
