Strong Focus: Marvin on Supply Chain Management
Marvin focuses on teamwork, clear decisions, and a strategic perspective in supply chain management. He explains why patience and the courage to make mistakes are valuable.
Does it always need a perfect plan?
No! Start, do, make decisions – that’s my attitude! Once you’ve started, the rest often comes on its own. And a wrong decision is better than making no decision nine times!
Mistakes are good because they help you grow, think differently about things, assess them better in the future, and develop your skills. Of course, in the past, this attitude has sometimes caused friction in my environment. But my mindset has always carried me and turned many things into something positive.
Career – alone or with a team?
For me, it only works in a team. Every character, every attitude, and every experience is incredibly valuable in a team. It’s important to support each individual in their development and to approach each personality with patience and perseverance. Is that always easy? Certainly not!
Every one of my supervisors, every employee, and every colleague has contributed to my career and my character in some way. That’s what ultimately shapes us and our careers.
Supply Chain Management is just operational logistics. Or is it?
I started my professional career in logistics, worked in the operational area, and know the topic. But Supply Chain Management is more – broader and more complex. Today, we have a strategic view across a variety of interfaces such as purchasing, planning, production, and the customer. Our expertise and responsibility have become increasingly valuable in recent years.
Topics like automation, harmonization, and visualization are important for us and make us resilient – we need to secure our supply chains. For that, we need all areas, not just operational logistics!
At some point, a career comes to an end. Really?
In my career so far, I’ve had many moments that showed me afterward that with hard work and focus, a lot is possible and there are always new paths – no matter where you start! My motto applies here too – if you want something, do it, take care of it, approach others, and get support. So keep your eyes open for development opportunities, define your own goals, and communicate them.
