POLYVEST®

In recent years, Evonik's researchers have done a great deal to further enhance so-called green tires. But that's not all: To make the green tire even greener, our experts continued their search for new innovations. These efforts have led to the development of POLYVEST® ST, a silane-terminated liquid polybutadiene used as a performance additive to ensure that the Silica/Silane system is even more compatible with rubber in tire formulations.

In 1909, the German scientist Fritz Hofmann filed a patent for the manufacture of the world's first synthetic rubber. This was the beginning of mass production of tires.

Since then, tires have been constantly evolving. Today, our motto is: "We go green". With the help of precipitated silicas and rubber silanes from Evonik and the modern production technology, tire manufacturers can further optimize their products. This means tires with improved operational performance and better wet grip, coupled with lower rolling resistance and reduced abrasion. Reduced abrasion means less particulate emissions, lower rolling resistance and less fuel consumption, which reduces the emission of the climate-damaging greenhouse gas CO2.

Material tests have shown that the rolling resistance index of the optimized green tire is 10-15% lower than before. Drivers can save more fuel, whereas its wet grip and abrasion resistance remain unchanged.

Even with these amazing qualities, products from the POLYVEST® family are not only used in the tire industry, but also in adhesive and sealant systems for the automotive industry, as well as the electrical and construction sectors.

So if you want to develop products and applications that solve real-world problems, take a look at our opportunities and see what you can be a part of.
