Jana – Her journey in Marketing at Care Solutions
Master's student Jana supported the marketing team at Care Solutions, first as an intern and later as a working student. In her story, she shares her valuable experiences.
Hello, everyone!
My name is Jana and I am a 24-year-old student living in Essen, Germany.
Currently, I am studying at the University of Bochum. I started my academic journey in 2019 with a bachelor's program in Management and Economics, specializing in Strategy, Sales, and Marketing. Following that, I seamlessly transitioned into the master's program, working towards the specializations in Sales & Marketing and Controlling. I am on track to complete my master’s program in January 2025.
I was familiar with Evonik because it is an important company here in my hometown, and I know some of my friends and family who work here. My first contact with Evonik was through a friend who is an employee. She supported with bringing my CV into Evonik. Fortunately, the marketing department then contacted me. I was very happy when I got the exciting opportunity to join Evonik in March 2022 for a 3-month internship in the global marketing department within the Care Solutions division in Essen. Specifically, I became a part of the global marketing team focusing on ceramides and sphingolipids for the personal care market. The motivation for choosing an internship at Evonik was to gain experience in marketing, and I was particularly excited to work in an area related to the cosmetics industry.
During my internship, I gained experience in a variety of marketing-related tasks, including market research and analysis, competitive research, trends, customer products, raw material positioning, and assisting with customer profiling. This great experience not only broadened my horizons, but also provided a real-world application of the concepts I had learned at university. The end of my internship marked the beginning of a new chapter. I continued my journey with Evonik, transitioning into a working student role within the global marketing team. This continued involvement has not only allowed me to be a part of an amazing team and grow as a person, but has also allowed me to take on more responsibility and work more independently on projects, giving me valuable professional work experience. Fortunately, my experience with Evonik has been extremely positive. I felt very welcome from day one. This is due to my great team and my managers, who have always been very supportive and challenging in a positive way, which has helped me to grow. What I also appreciate about the working culture within the team is the fact that it is very international and therefore very open to other cultures. As a person who is very interested in further improving my English skills, I love working in a global team. After graduating from school, I spent a year abroad, and I would love to repeat this great experience in the future. I think Evonik is an employer that offers the opportunity to work in different countries around the world. This is one of the reasons why I think it is a great company with a lot of opportunities that I would like to pursue in the future.
For the future, I would like to remain a part of Evonik and take on new responsibilities after finishing my studies. If given the opportunity, I would like to continue working in marketing within Care Solutions, but I am also open and interested in working in other areas and divisions. I am especially looking forward to expanding my network and meeting more inspiring people. I would be very happy to have the opportunity to work in another country one day. Summing up, I can say that I have learned so much in the past two years and I am very grateful to be able to gain work experience while learning academic concepts at the university that complement each other.
